Construction Site by Temporary Services
+ April 17 - May 1, 2005, open 11 – 6 pm everyday

+ On an empty lot in Los Angeles, Temporary Services will develop an outdoor project: “Construction Site” - a socially interactive environment that will
develop spontaneously and collaboratively in Echo Park for two weeks.

+ Working with volunteers, friends, students, and passersby, Temporary Services will create structures largely from cast off materials. The site will be
transformed into an outdoor arena for discussions, film screenings, meals, and other events. Please visit http://www.outpost-art.org/calendar.php in April for a
list of participants and a schedule of events.

+ Location: Sunset Blvd between Alvarado and Park in Echo Park.

+ If you have any of the following “Wish List” items, please email Julie
RV for sleeping/living, Truck/van for hauling, Gasoline-powered generator with inputs for electrical appliances, CD/Cassette Boom box, Video projector,
DVD player, 16 mm film projector, Power tools of all variety, Hand tools (hammers, hand-saws, bolt cutters, metal snips, crow bars), Air compressor
and nail gun with extra nails, Staple guns, Heavy tarp or plastic, Tents, Folding tables and chairs, Beverages (beer, soda, wine, liqur, coffee), Foam
coolers . Coffee maker . Blender . Food . Charcoal briquettes . Garbage bags . Flashlights, Packing tape/Duct tape, Fastening materials (screws, rope,
zip ties, Velcro, etc., Ladders, Candles, Blankets and sleeping bags.

On March 15, we're meeting at LACE.
Most are leaving calarts at 1 pm, and we'll meet at LACE at 1:45.

Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions is located at 6522 Hollywood Boulevard, east of Highland and west of Cahuenga. Our cross street is Wilcox. Parking is available for $6.00 in the lot behind the building, accessible from Wilcox. There is also ample metered street parking available. We are near the 101 freeway and the Metro Red Line’s Hollywood/Vine station.

1. Set up blogs and flicker

2. Document examples of people having public, unplanned exchanges that are not economic.

3. Document examples of space that has been altered so it can or has functioned in a way it was not intended to be used.

4. Document examples of people using public and/or commercial spaces in ways they were not intended to be used

5. Begin thinking about ideas for altering a space at Calarts so it will be used in a way not intended (due in 2 weeks, ideas next week). Post ideas on blogs.

6. Put all of above on your blog for next class: Feb 15.
